Cymbeline

Friday 1st March – Sunday 3rd March (5 performances) 2019, The Merchant Taylors’ Hall.

Cymbeline is a wild tale of heroic princesses, jealous men, stolen infants, and scheming Queens. This is one of Shakespeare’s greatest but most under-performed plays, featuring riveting scenes filled with exquisite verse.

For the first time in its history, the YSP presented an ‘original practices’ production in Renaissance dress, in a limited engagement 1-3 March at one of York’s hidden gems, the medieval Merchant Taylors’ Hall. Due to high demand, a fifth performance was added on the Sunday night. All 5 shows were completely sold out, with the final performance being attended by the Lord Mayor and Civic Party, just as touring companies would have had in Shakespeare’s day.
